Job Description

Summary/objective

The Southern University at New Orleans Museum of Art (SUNOMA) serves as a cultural, research, and teaching resource that engages campus and broader community audiences in the study and appreciation of African and African American visual arts and cultural heritage.

The Office Coordinator provides administrative, operational, and programmatic support to ensure efficient daily functioning of the museum office and public-facing spaces. The incumbent manages office workflow, purchasing, scheduling, communication, and documentation activities, and provides customer service to students, visitors, faculty, and community partners.

Given the shared instructional and cultural programming mission and close physical proximity of the units, the Office Coordinator also provides limited administrative and clerical support to the Center for African and African American Studies (CAAAS) and the Master of Arts in Museum Studies Program. Support may include scheduling assistance, document preparation, coordination of shared events or exhibits, and maintaining common office resources, while SUNOMA remains the primary work assignment.

This position requires professionalism, discretion, initiative, strong organization skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a cultural and academic setting.
