Human Resources | Supervisory Training

The State Civil Service Commission has established Minimum Supervisory Training Requirements in accordance with Civil Service Rule 22.10 for all employees who occupy jobs that are designated as part of a Supervisory Group.

As a supervisor, you are responsible for attending the training for which they are scheduled and for cancelling timely when necessary. Cancellation can usually be done through LEO. If for whatever reason, the employee cannot cancel the class through LEO, the employee should notify the Office of Human Resources at:

SUPERVISORY CORE PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

The CPTP Supervisory Core Program requirements must be completed within one year of hire or promotion into a Group 1 or 2 supervisory role.

Core Courses – Online training courses
• Civil Service Essentials for Supervisors
• Common Myths that Affect Good Supervision • Hiring and Retaining Top Talent
• Leave Management
• Validating Employee Performance

Instructor Led Training

• 2015 Supervisory Core Group Capstone

Human Resource will coordinate two sessions each year and publicize. Please choose one and note that participation is mandatory for all newly hired supervisors or newly promoted supervisors.


GROUP 1 SUPERVISOR

As a Group 1 supervisor, you are required to complete these courses within 3 years of your hire date or promotion to your supervisory role.

Group 1 Courses – Online training courses
• Ethical Behavior in the Workplace (1 day Instructor Lead Training) OR Building Trust (Online)
• Managing and Improving Work Processes (1 day Instructor Lead Training ) OR Supervisor’s Toolbox: Managing and Improving Work

Processes (Online)
• Change Management
• Communicating Top-Down Messages • Emotional Intelligence 1
• Inspirational Leadership
• Situational Leadership

 

Instructor Led Training

• Supervisory Group 1 Capstone Workshop (1 day Instructor Lead Training)

GROUP 2 SUPERVISOR

As a Group 2 supervisor, you are required to complete all of the Group 1 requirements and the below-referenced Group 2 courses within four (4) years of your hire date or your promotion to a supervisory role.

• Developing a Motivated Workgroup (1 Day Instructor Led) OR Organizational Dynamics (Online) • Emotional Intelligence
• Ethical Leadership
• Prioritizing Tasks with Agency Mission & Values
• Situational Leadership
• Strategic Thinking

Instructor Led Training

• Work-life Balance: Balancing Your Life (1 day Instructor Lead Training)

Human Resource will coordinate two sessions each year and publicize. Please choose one and note that participation is mandatory for all newly hired supervisors or newly promoted supervisors.
