The Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach (Assistant Coach) will provide assistance to the Head Coach in the areas of recruiting, training, scheduling, and conditioning exercises. The Assistant Coach will reinforce the athletics department and university goals. The Assistant Coach of Women’s Basketball is required to abide by the rules and regulations established by Southern University at New Orleans, the GCAC (Gulf Coast Athletic Conference), and the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics).
Essential functions

- Schedule and run practices for the Women’s Basketball team; establishes the daily practice routine to include conditioning, running and scrimmages.
- Assist in academic counseling and advising of athletes.
- Travel with the team to ensure the players are prepared for the game.
- Scout upcoming opponents to determine weaknesses, strengths and tendencies; works with the Head Coach to develop game plans.
- Assist in the facility care and maintenance for the SUNO Gymnasium.
- Assist with year-round recruitment of high school and junior college players, including recruitment by evaluation, phone and written communication to coaches and players while maintaining a database of viable recruits for the women’s basketball program.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Ability to travel and recruit student-athletes.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to learn and comply with all policies and regulations of the University, the GCAC (Gulf Coast Athletic Conference), and the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics).
- Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records.
- Ability to scout opponents.
- Ability to work summer camps.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Work environment
Athletic setting. Indoor gym.
Physical demands
Must stand for long periods of time at games and at practice. May participate in drills or practices. May have to lift or transport equipment. Instructing and demonstrating physical skills while coaching; extensive travel via car, air and bus.
Travel required
Frequent travel.
Required education and experience
- Bachelor's degree.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Playing or coaching experience at the college, university or professional level.
- A proven record of integrity, high principles and demonstrated skill in developing motivating student-athletes academically and athletically.
Preferred education and experience
- 3 – 5 years coaching experience at the college, university or professional level.
