Director of Certification Programs and Residency

Job Description 

Summary/objective 

Under the direction of the Dean of the College of Education and Human Development, the Director will develop, continuously improve, and sustain the Teacher Certification and Residency program. Will serve as the lead liaison to all partner school districts, organizing a collaborative resident selection process, facilitating mentor recruitment and selection, and supporting the effectiveness of Mentor Teachers who work with residents. 

This is a 12-month, administrative position. 

*This position is funded 100% by the Title III-B, Strengthening Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) federal grant. As such, the Director assists the Dean of the College of Education and Human Development with implementing the objectives established in the Title III Program for this federally-funded activity. 

Essential functions

  1. Advises Post Bac and MAT Student in the College of Education and Human Development. 
  2. Compiles and Monitors Data for Certification Programs. 
  3. Submits State and National Data such as Title II reports. 
  4. Oversees residency assignments and completes residency observations. 
  5. Completes student candidate applications for residency certificate, Practitioner’s license and initial certification. 
  6. Plans, coordinates, and implements activities that supports development of certification candidates. 
  7. Other duties as assigned. 

Competencies 

  • Strong technological background. 
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task and work effectively in a dynamic and fast-paced setting. 
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet goals and deadlines both independently and collaboratively. 
  • Understanding (or willingness to learn) State Laws and Statutes as it relates to education, such as Bulletin 996. 

Required education and experience 

  • Master's degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction or related field. 
  • Three or more years of classroom teaching experience or Mentor/Content Leader training or certification. 

Preferred education and experience 

  • Doctoral degree in Higher Education, Education, Curriculum and Instruction or related field. 
  • Use of Watermark (a plus but not required) 
  • Knowledge of InTASC, CAEP, and NIET
