Job Description 

Summary/objective 

The College of Business & Public Administration (CBA) is a fully accredited College of Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO). The College provides education and degrees in Business Administration, Computer Information Systems, and Public Administration that equip a predominantly urban student body, including those from the New Orleans Metropolitan area, with cutting- edge knowledge, professional and research skills, and ethical decision-making abilities essential for successful careers in business, entrepreneurship, industry, education, government, and for further studies at graduate and professional levels. The College supports and promotes research and intellectual contributions aimed at improving teaching, entrepreneurial opportunities in the region, and awareness of global issues. 

Within the College, the Renewable Energy Management Program Coordinator (REM-PC) is a professional staff member who works with current and incoming students in exploring career options in the Renewable Energy Industry and helps them to acquire required credentials to succeed in the industry. 

The role of REM-PC is to recruit and enroll students in the REM program. The REM- PC will advise REM participants so they may matriculate and graduate from SUNO within four to six years, recruit SUNO students to REM, collect data and 

input, and maintain accurate records of students’ degree audit by maintain close contact with each student’s faculty advisor. The REM-PC will provide individual and group coaching sessions, which will address issues such as personal barriers, goal setting, academic mindset, anxiety concerns, avoiding procrastination, career coaching, address various academic and social issues, assist with scholarship opportunities, graduate school admission and other duties of the department. 

Essential functions

  1. Collaborate with the entire REM team on student recruitment and enrollment, to ensure that the program serves 20 new students, annually. 
  2. Develop an Individual Academic Plan (IAP) with each new participant, including a checklist of recommended services and a timeline for graduation. 
  3. Monitor early alerts from pre-mid-term evaluation for participants, as well as REM participant attendance for supplemental instruction, tutoring, workshops, and meetings, intervening as necessary and providing positive reinforcement when possible. 
  4. Identify and attract renewable energy companies to SUNO to provide field trips, internships, guest speaker programs, and employment of REM graduates. 
  5. Assist students in communicating effectively with faculty, encouraging them to self-advocate and contact faculty directly as needed. 
  6. Act as referral source for tutoring and personal counseling needs. 
  7. Assist participants with course selection with faculty advisors and registration each semester, offer students the additional REM-related courses, when needed. 
  8. Ensure that each student meets with REM-PC and is served at least four times per semester. 
  9. Document all contacts and services electronically and in student files, maintaining confidentiality of student data. 
  10. Meet weekly with other REM staff to discuss achievements and concerns of the program and individual students, and implement program modifications for improvement, if necessary. 
  11. Report weekly to the College of Business Dean and College of Arts & Sciences Dean, as needed. 
  12. Facilitate workshops for students focused on academic skill-building, leadership, career, etc. 
  13. Contribute to formal reports of program outcomes. 
  14. Collaborate with college administrators, faculty, and staff to promote retention, graduation, and admission to graduate school. 
  15. Engage with REM staff members to provide formative assessment and improvement of program. 
  16. Teach course(s), when needed and assigned 
  17. Perform all other duties assigned. 
  1. Competencies 

    • Knowledge of best practice in student recruitment, academic coaching, teaching, student assessments/surveys, course selection, facilitating and coordinating workshops and/or seminars, career coaching, and financial literacy. 
    • Ability to plan student educational activities and an ability to understand the importance of course sequences, and semester course loadings, that directly impact student success. 
    • Strong knowledge of the energy industry, especially renewable energy industry. 
    • Excellent verbal and written business communication skills. 
    • Ability to build relationships and work closely with other team members, departments, faculty, and university staff on projects. 
    • Knowledge of federal and state financial aid/scholarship programs. 
    • Strong understanding of confidentiality. 
    • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with faculty, students, staff, and administration. 
    • The ability to work effectively in a very collaborative environment with students and faculty from multiple disciplines is required. 
    • Ability to exercise sound, independent judgment. 

    Required education and experience 

    • Bachelor’s degree in STEM, Business, or other related fields. 
    • Experience in various academic and technological workshops/seminars with local, state, or regional entities related to good academic standards, retention and graduation. 
    • Three years of experience in student recruitment, academic coaching, academic instruction, career guidance, and/or personal coaching in a higher education setting. 

    Preferred education and experience 

    • Master’s degree in STEM, Business, or other related fields preferred. 
    • Previous experience in secondary or higher education is desirable.
