Center for Academic Retention and Educational Success (C.A.R.E.S.)
Anthony Ray, M.S./ML
Executive Director
The mission of the Center for Academic Retention and Educational Success (C.A.R.E.S.) is to increase the retention, persistence and graduation rates of students at Southern University at New Orleans. This Title III Activity is designed to support first-year students’ transition from home and high school to the challenges of college life, which requires acquired skills and major adjustments to college life to make successful academic progress and is designed to support second-year students as they navigate the changing and challenging university landscape. The Activity also provides academic support and assistance to non-traditional and dual-enrolled students.
The C.A.R.E.S. program staff will implement a variety of innovative activities that focus on monitoring academic advisement, informing students of the University’s policies and procedures, offering an array of student development workshops, providing students with community service opportunities, offering Freshmen Assembly and College Survival Skills courses, working collaboratively with the academic support units and staff, and providing professional development workshops and presentations to faculty and staff on retention services and strategies.
