Health & Clinical Requirements

All students in the Evening & Weekend BSN Pathway at Southern University at New Orleans must meet health and clinical requirements before starting clinical courses.

These requirements are needed to protect students, patients, and clinical partners.

Required Health and Safety Documents

  • Proof of required immunizations
  • Completion of a criminal background check
  • Completion of a drug screening
  • Current CPR certification (American Heart Association, Healthcare Provider level)
  • Proof of health insurance coverage

Important Deadlines

  • All health and clinical documents must be submitted by the posted deadline
  • Students who do not meet deadlines may not be allowed to begin clinical courses
  • Deadlines will be shared after admission and before clinical placement. Students are encouraged to complete all requirements as early as possible to avoid delays.

Meeting these requirements on time is essential for staying on track in the program.

Accreditation & Licensure Information

The Evening & Weekend BSN Pathway at Southern University at New Orleans is part of the School of Nursing’s accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.

  • The BSN program is fully accredited and meets all required academic and clinical standards
  • The Evening & Weekend pathway follows the same curriculum, learning outcomes, and graduation requirements as the traditional day BSN program
  • The difference between pathways is when classes are offered, not what students learn

This program is designed to prepare graduates for Registered Nurse (RN) licensure. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to apply to take the NCLEX-RN® examination.

Accreditation ensures that students receive a high-quality nursing education that meets professional and licensing standards.

Clinical Attendance

  • After admission, students will receive a Student Handbook
  • The handbook outlines all program policies, expectations, and procedures
  • Students are responsible for reviewing and following the handbook throughout the program
