Admissions Requirements
To apply for the Evening & Weekend BSN Pathway at Southern University at New Orleans, applicants must meet all of the requirements below.
Who Can Apply
- Working adults who have completed all required general education and science prerequisite courses
- Applicants must be ready to enter the nursing program full-time
Required General Education & Science Courses
Applicants must complete the following courses before starting the program:
- English Composition I
- English Composition II
- College Algebra
- Elementary Statistics
- General Psychology
- Lifespan or Developmental Psychology
- Sociology
- History of US
- Computer Productivity Application course
- Intro to Art or Music
- English Literature
- Intro to Human Communication or Public Speaking
- Anatomy & Physiology I (with lab)
- Anatomy & Physiology II (with lab)
- Microbiology (with lab)
- General Chemistry (with lab)
(All courses must be completed with a grade of “C” or better.)
Academic Requirements
- Minimum cumulative GPA: 2.7 on a 4.0 scale
- Courses cannot be repeated more than two times
- A grade of “C” or better is required in all prerequisite and general education courses
- Science courses older than 10 years must be repeated
Additional Requirements
- Completion of an interview with the Nursing Admissions Committee
- Completion of a proctored writing sample
- Submission to and passing of a criminal background check
- Applicants previously enrolled in a nursing program must submit a letter of good standing from that program
Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission. Admission is competitive and based on a full review of the application.
