Dr. Rebecca A. Chaisson
The School of Social Work at Southern University is located in a culturally diverse area that serves as an incubator for our students to grow and enrich themselves in the social climate of the region. Through various community activities, our students can develop the knowledge and skills of professional social work, as well as secure opportunities to operationalize our School’s themes: Advocacy, Empowerment, and Transformation.
This environment allows our students to become active participants enhancing well-being and helping meet basic individual, family, and community human needs, especially in partnerships with vulnerable and oppressed people. Our programs prepare students to recognize and promote social justice and social change on behalf of those we serve. We enhance the capacity of people to address inequality, inequities, and disparities. The core values of our professional relationships, integrity, and competency. We hope the passion to help others…which brings you to our doors enables you to leave with an even greater zero zeal to advocate, empower and transform.
