Financial Aid Verification

Verification is the audit process of reviewing and determining a student's eligibility for Federal Title IV assistance. The verification process is used to check the accuracy of the information that a student reported on his/her FAFSA. Verification procedures are governed by the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended, and Subpart E of 34 CFR part 688 “Verification of Student Aid Application Information” regulations published in the Federal Register on March 14, 1986 and August 15, 1986.

Each school is required by the U. S. Department of Education to verify all applicants selected by the central processing system (CPS), up to a limit of (30) percent of its total Financial Aid Applicants for any type of Title IV student aid.

Students are sent e-mail notifications by the U.S. Department of Education via their processed FAFSA application. The information is displayed in the comment section.

The SUNO Financial Aid Office notifies students via their SUNO E-MAIL Account regarding their verification process. Students are informed to check their Banner Secure Area for "Unsatisfied Requirements" where the required documents are listed.
