Southern University at New Orleans Educational Opportunity Centers, a federally funded TRIO program through the U. S. Department of Education designed to provide information and assistance regarding academic and financial aid to individuals who desire to pursue a program in postsecondary education. As well as, establishing daily improvements with decision-making for promoting assistance and connected services that lead the way to enrich employment opportunities, academic development skills, vocational skills and training, personal and academic counseling.

Mission: To build bridges over existing barriers and generate opportunities holistically through academic development, counseling, educational and training skills that achieves socioeconomic hurdles, personal renewals, and favorable careers that expands opportunities and quality living.

PROGRAM GOALS:

Our goal is to establish an ongoing development and implementation of a connected community approach with enhancing the access and support for target area residents with the opportunities of achieving college degrees, training and development skills that will equip residents to meet the changes in employment trends that create positive results with socioeconomic status and everyday living.

A. Establish access and assist participants with advancing in completion of secondary diploma and/or HISET Equivalent diploma.

B. Establish access and assist participants with filling out application for FASFA as well as scholarship for postsecondary education.

C. Establish access and assist high school seniors, high school and equivalent graduates with filling out postsecondary admission applications to meet admission deadlines and attain readiness for college entrance examination, expectations, and self-management skills.

D. Establish access and assist high school and equivalent graduates and post-secondary reentry participants with enrollment in postsecondary education with guidance in career choice, motivation skills, academic development and training skills, counsel social and emotion well-being counsel to assure continuous thrive in the everyday obtainable opportunities

Who is eligible to participate?

  • Must reside in one of the following parishes: St. Bernard, Jefferson, or Orleans
  •  A citizen or national of the U.S.
  •  A permanent resident of the U. S.
  •  Is at least 19 years of age
  •  Under 19 years of age not enrolled in an Educational Talent Search TRIO Program
  •  A veteran or spouse of a veteran
  •  Expresses a desire to enroll in postsecondary education
  •  Enrolled in postsecondary education in need of assistance in financial aid (FAFSA)
  •  First generation; meaning neither parent has a four-year college degree
  •  Low income; defined by the U.S. Department of Education
  •  HISET Registration Fee Paid (Limit 2)
