Honore Students

RESOURCES PROVIDED TO HONORÉ CENTER STUDENTS:

  • On-campus housing & meal plan assistance
  • All required textbooks for courses of study
  • Laptop computer pre-loaded with MS Office, support software, etc.
  • Monthly spending allowance (to discourage outside employment)
  • Academic & Psycho-social monitoring and support
  • Co-curriculum activities (Field trips, service projects, speakers bureau)

[NOTE: Students agree that all resources provided beyond their Pell Grant assistance shall be considered forgivable loans until they graduate from SUNO and complete two years of classroom teaching in a New Orleans public school.]

SELECTION CRITERIA & REQUIREMENTS:

  • ACT composite between 14-19, minimum GPA of 2.0
  • Nomination letter from the high school principal or college counselor
  • Recommendation from a high school teacher
  • Recommendation from someone outside school who knows the candidate in another capacity (coach, minister, employer, etc)
  • Candidate’s essay about himself, minimum 300 words/maximum 500 words
  • Pell Grant eligible (family income @ poverty level guidelines)
  • Successful interview with Honore Center selection committee
