Intake Criteria and Guidelines
Recognition as a Greek-letter Organization
Recognition is the formal process through which Southern University at New Orleans authorizes a fraternity, sorority, or other student organization to operate on campus. This recognition enables the organization to conduct membership intake and be officially acknowledged as part of the university community
Recognition is the formal process through which Southern University at New Orleans authorizes a fraternity, sorority, or other student organization to operate on campus. This recognition enables the organization to conduct membership intake and be officially acknowledged as part of the university community
To be eligible for membership, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Enrollment Status: Candidates must be full-time, currently enrolled students at Southern University at New Orleans.

Academic Progress: Candidates must be classified as a Sophomore with a minimum of thirty (30) earned credit hours at the time of application for membership.

Transfer Students: In addition to any transferred credit hours, candidates must complete at least one (1) semester of twelve (12) institutional hours at Southern University at New Orleans .
- Grade Point Average: Candidates must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5, including both institutional and transfer credits.
- Community Service: Candidates are required to complete a minimum of fifteen (15) hours of verifiable community service, as approved and documented by Southern University at New Orleans.
- Conduct Record: Candidates must not have any outstanding violations of the Student Code of Conduct.
- Mandatory Programming: Candidates must attend the annual "Meet the Greeks" event and the Anti-Hazing Workshop—an educational program facilitated by the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement—prior to the chapter’s submission of a Request for Membership Intake to the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC).
