SUNO Athletics Weekend Recap (Oct. 16th)

Fans came out to the Castle to watch Southern University at New Orleans’ volleyball team play against Rust College on October 14 in a doubleheader.
 
The first match went to the Bearcats, but the Knights showed they were there to compete. SUNO kept close during the first set, with Alana Mumphrey finishing with five assists. Savannah Hadley and Holly Richardson ended the set with two digs each.
 
With points back and forth, Rust won the first set, 25-19.
 
Richardson led the team with five kills in the second set. Malaysia Hudson followed closely behind her with four kills and three digs. Mumphrey ended the set with eight assists. The Bearcats took the second set, 25-12.
 
The set ended with a win from Rust, 25-14, and the Bearcats took the match, 3-0. Mumphrey led SUNO with 12 total assists, and Richardson ended the match with a team-high 28 total attacks.
 
In the second match, Richardson gave a great performance. After Friday’s performance with a match-high eight kills, Richardson stated her goal was to double that against Rust.  She came up just short of her goal of 16 kills and ended the second match of the day with a match-high 14 kills. Mumphrey continued to lead the team with 14 assists and had a match-high 10 digs.
 
The Bearcats took the match 3-0 (25-18. 25-15, 25-21) and move to 5-7 in GCAC play. The Knights fall to 0-8 in the conference.
 
SUNO travels to John Melvin on October 17 and then takes on Tallageda on October 18. The Knights’ next home game is on October 20 at 6 p.m. in a doubleheader against Wiley College.
