Applying for Housing

Welcome Home, Knights!

The Fall 2026 Housing Applications is Open

Welcome to Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) Residential Life and Housing. We’re excited that you’re considering living on campus and becoming part of a vibrant residential community. Living in SUNO Apartments places you at the center of campus life, offering convenience, connection, and a supportive environment to help you succeed academically and personally. Please review the information below carefully to ensure a smooth application process.

Housing Application & Fees

To apply for housing, students must submit a completed application along with a non-refundable $450 housing fee. This fee is required at the time of application submission, and applications will not be processed until payment is received.

Students have flexible payment options. The Cashier’s Office is available to accept payments in person or over the phone for those who are unable to visit campus. If you have questions regarding payment, you are encouraged to contact the office directly at bursar@suno.edu or call (504) 286-5322 for assistance.

Eligibility Requirements

Before receiving a housing assignment, all students must meet the following requirements. These steps are essential and must be completed in full:

  • Be registered for a minimum of 12 credit hours
  • Complete the FAFSA Application
  • Meet the minimum payment requirement with the Office of Student Accounts
  • Submit a completed Fall 2026 Housing Application

Students who do not meet all of the above requirements may experience delays in receiving a housing assignment.

Room Assignments

Housing assignments are made on a first-come, first-served basis once both your application and payment have been received. While we carefully review student preferences and do our best to accommodate requests, specific room, floor plan or roommate requests are not guaranteed.

Assignment notifications will be sent to your official SUNO or SUS email account no later than July 27. Your assignment email will include important details such as your room number, apartment placement, and roommate information. It is critical that you check your SUNO/SUS email regularly, as this will be our primary method of communication.

If you do not currently have access to your SUNO or SUS email account, please contact the IT department as soon as possible to avoid missing important updates.

Move-In Information

In July, you will receive detailed move-in instructions to help you prepare for your arrival on campus. This information will include move-in dates, times, and expectations to ensure a smooth and organized check-in process. Be sure to review all materials carefully once they are sent.

Waitlist Information

Please note that housing at SUNO is limited and not guaranteed. If the number of applications exceeds available space, students will be placed on a housing waitlist. Students on the waitlist will be notified and provided with updates as space becomes available. Submitting your application early is strongly encouraged to improve your chances of securing housing.

Pet Policy

SUNO Residential Life follows the University of Louisiana System Policy and the Assistance Animal Residential Housing Policy. Students who require an assistance animal must follow the proper approval process. For more information or guidance, please contact the Housing Office directly.
