Job Description 

Summary/objective

The Program Assistant/Social Media Manager provides essential administrative, operational, and communications support for the TRIO program. This dual-function role includes managing participant data and files, coordinating program activities, communicating with stakeholders, and overseeing TRIO’s digital presence to enhance participant engagement. The position requires strong organizational skills, creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment serving low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented students.

Grant-funded Position

This position is fully funded through the federal TRIO grant. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of TRIO grant funding.

Essential functions

  1. Input participants’ data into Blumen/Compansol.
  2. Set up and maintain participant eligibility and service files.
  3. Assist in planning, coordinating, and executing programs, workshops, and events.
  4. Support communication with participants, partners, and community stakeholders.
  5. Maintain accurate program records, reports, and participant databases.
  6. Assist with the preparation of materials, presentations, and official correspondence.
  7. Develop and implement social media strategies that increase digital engagement and program visibility.
  8. Create and schedule content across platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, etc.).
  9. Design graphics, videos, and multimedia content to promote events and TRIO initiatives.
  10. Monitor social media analytics to assess performance and guide improvements.
  11. Manage and maintain online platforms (Zoom, Google Suite, Webex, etc.).
  12. Complete budget-related requisitions, ordering, and processing of office supplies and equipment.
  13. Maintain a clean, organized, and professional working environment.
  14. Other duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrates proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Banner, Blumen/Compansol, and Student National Clearinghouse tools.

  • Demonstrates enthusiasm for SUNO’s mission and goals.
  • Supports initiatives that promote access, equity, and student success.

Work environment

Work takes place in an office setting, classroom environment, and occasionally lab settings.

Physical demands

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and climb stairs.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to use a keyboard and read printed/digital materials.
  • Ability to travel by plane, train, or vehicle.
  • Ability to lift or carry up to 10 pounds.

Travel required

Travel may be required for TRIO-related activities, conferences, or student engagement events.

Required education and experience

  • High school diploma required.
  • At least two years of secretarial or administrative support experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with low-income, first-generation, or underrepresented students.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience managing social media platforms and producing digital content.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and virtual communication platforms (Zoom, Webex, etc.).
  • Experience with Canva, Meta Business Suite, or similar tools.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • General understanding of nonprofit or educational program operations.
  • Basic graphic design and video editing skills.
  • Familiarity with analytics and performance metrics.
  • Interest in community and student engagement.

Preferred education and experience

  • Associates degree preferred.
