SUNO’s 2017 Fall Enrollment Shows
Increase Over Last Year’s Numbers

NEW ORLEANS, LA – Oct. 2, 2017 – Fall enrollment figures for Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) indicate that 2,535 students are enrolled for the 2017 fall semester. This represents a 4.3 percent increase from the 2,430 students who enrolled in fall 2016.

The 2,535 students include 211 first-time freshmen, a 47 percent increase from the fall 2016 figure of 144. With 111 students in the joint program between SUNO and Southern University at Shreveport, a two-year university and fellow member institution within the Southern University System, there are more than 2,6000 students taking classes on SUNO’s Park and Lake campuses.

SUNO Chancellor Lisa Mims-Devezin credits increased community outreach, engagement, marketing and recruitment for the uptick in fall enrollment. “Our faculty, staff and administrators have worked hard to inform potential students about the benefits of attending Southern University at New Orleans.”

It is estimated that SUNO has the largest, most significant authenticated African and African-American art collection in the entire Southern region. Artifacts from this collection have been borrowed for study and display by major museums in Louisiana and other states.
