Preparation Resources

Edmentum Courseware is a myriad of Praxis aligned lessons that introduce students to the Praxis format, type of test questions, and increase their proficiency in reading, writing math and Praxis II content areas. The courseware offers diagnostics, engaging tutorials, and pre and post assessments.

One-on-One tutoring is available to SUNO students who need to pass Praxis. Reading, writing and math content specialists’ work diligently with students to help them master the content knowledge they need to pass Praxis assessments.

Praxis Simulations are students take timed practice, Praxis assessments in an emulated Praxis environment. Simulations allow students to assess their content readiness to take actual Praxis Tests. Immediately afterwards, students receive their score reports, and two weeks after, they receive a customized study guide.

Teacher Preparation Courses are offered to assist students with passing both Praxis I Core and Praxis II Tests. Aspiring teacher candidates should enroll into the applicable prep course no later than their second semester as a freshman. Students who transfer into the Department of Teacher Education and Certification-Only programs should enroll into an applicable Praxis prep course upon entry into the University.

EDUC 200 - Teacher Prep Course is designed to help students pass Praxis I Core Academic Skills Assessments for reading, writing and math.

ELED 226 - Content Knowledge Course focuses on preparing students for success on the Elementary Education Praxis Test.

ELED 227 - Principles of Teaching and Learning Course reintroduce students to theories and theorists that undergird teaching and learning practices.

Workshops are intensive overviews of Praxis content and the test-taking skills students need to pass Praxis assessments. They are primarily on Saturdays during fall and spring semesters and during the day in summer semesters. Online, hybrid and face-to-face methods, as well as Core and Pre-Core, workshops are available.

The total enrollment at SUNO has grown every year since Hurricane Katrina. Despite projections that the University's enrollment would only reach between 1,200 and 1,500 students in the spring of 2006, more than 2,000 students returned to campus. SUNO's current enrollment is 2,704 students.
