SUNO's Police Department Receives a $124,000 Award!

Southern University at New Orleans Police Department receives an award of $124,000.00 from the Department of Justice Awards for Law Enforcement Hiring to Advance Community Policing

The Southern University at New Orleans Police Department is pleased to announce the awarding of $124,000 through the COPS Hiring Program. The COPS Hiring Program is a competitive grant program designed to reduce crime and advance public safety through community policing. This effort provides government funding for the hiring of career law enforcement officers to enhance local community policing strategies and tactics. The COPS Office received appropriately 1,100 applications requesting more than 4,000 law enforcement positions. The SUNO Police Department is only 1 of 3 university police departments in the United States to be awarded this grant for 2020.
