Summer Camps At SUNO

Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) will host several summer campus starting in June.

Healthy Minds Healthy Bodies 
The Healthy Minds Healthy Bodies Learning Institute (HMHB) Summer Camp is scheduled June 4-July 13, 2018 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Breakfast and lunch will be served daily. After Care (3-6 p.m.) is available. 

The mission of the program, which has operated on SUNO’s campus for the past 6 years, is to enhance retention of children’s grade-specific academic knowledge and well-being through a nutrition-science integrated curriculum (English –Language Arts, Math, Science and Financial Literacy) and physical activities (swimming, golf, tennis, dance) during out-of-school periods. The 6-12-year-old children also will take weekly field trips and participate in life-skills workshops and on-site gardening.

Two sessions of a two-week math and science camp for elementary students are scheduled June 4-15 and June 18-29. The camp hours are 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. daily. Students in second through fourth grades will be engaged in hands-on math and science activities throughout the day, with a 30-minute lunch break. Materials and lunch are free. 


Prospective campers may apply via e-mail at or in person in the Brown (Old Science) Building, Room 204. The deadline to apply is Friday, April 20 at 5 p.m. For information, call 504-286-5096.


The Research on the Science and Engineering of Signatures (ROSES) Summer Camp is scheduled for two-weeks in two sessions: June 4-15 or June 18-29. Camp hours are 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m., with a 30-minute lunch break.
