Job Description
Summary/objective
The Educational Opportunity Centers (EOC) TRIO Program seeks a committed, community-focused part-time Community Outreach Advisor to enhance engagement efforts, expand partnerships, and increase access to postsecondary opportunities for low-income, first-generation students and adult learners.
This position serves as a vital connector between SUNO TRIO programs and the communities they serve. The Community Outreach Advisor will build partnerships, coordinate outreach events, conduct workshops, and provide admissions and financial aid support to program participants. The ideal candidate is personable, organized, flexible, and passionate about helping individuals achieve academic and career success.
This is a part-time position.
Grant-funded Position
This position is fully funded through the federal TRIO grant. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of TRIO grant funding.
Essential functions

- Assist participants with completing admissions, FAFSA, and other financial aid applications.
- Develop, coordinate, and conduct academic, career, and test-preparation workshops.
- Build and sustain partnerships with schools, nonprofits, community groups, and local agencies.
- Plan and lead outreach activities, community presentations, and engagement events.
- Represent the TRIO EOC Program at public meetings, community fairs, and professional gatherings.
- Collaborate with TRIO staff to promote services, initiatives, and program activities.
- Prepare outreach materials, newsletters, and social media content to support visibility.
- Track outreach participation, activities, and program outcomes for required reporting.
- Provide community feedback and recommendations to support program improvement.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment.
- Other duties as assigned.

Work environment
Work is performed in an office setting, classroom environment, lab setting, and various off-campus community locations.
Physical demands
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and bend as needed.
- Ability to climb stairs and use a computer and keyboard.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
- Ability to lift or carry up to 10 pounds.
- Ability to travel by plane, vehicle, or train for outreach activities.
Travel required
Travel is required for community engagement, outreach, presentations, and partner events.
Required education and experience
- An associate degree with three (3) years of related experience will be considered.
- At least two (2) years of experience in education, counseling, social work, student services, human services, TRIO, or similar programs.
- Strong communication, public speaking, and relationship-building abilities.
- Experience working with diverse populations and community-based organizations.
- Ability to plan events, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and social media platforms.
- Reliable transportation and willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends.
- Experience with community engagement, outreach, or case management.
- Knowledge of local resources, educational programs, and nonprofit services.
- Bilingual or multilingual skills preferred.
- Familiarity with content analytics and reporting.
- Demonstrated commitment to community development and service.
Preferred education and experience
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
