SUNO Volleyball’s Armoni Harris and Alaina Obianozie Named to 2024 All-HBCUAC Teams
New Orleans, LA – Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) is thrilled to announce that volleyball standouts Armoni Harris and Alaina Obianozie have been selected to the 2024 All-Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (All-HBCUAC) Teams. Harris was honored with a spot on the prestigious All-HBCUAC First Team, while Obianozie earned All-HBCUAC Honorable Mention for her contributions.
Armoni Harris, a leader on and off the court, has demonstrated remarkable consistency and defensive prowess throughout the season. Harris leads the HBCUAC in digs per set and ranks fifth in total digs with 319. Her exceptional play in conference matchups alone underscores her skill and determination, recording 234 total digs and averaging 5.2 digs per set to top all players. Known as a “court general,” Harris’s ability to read the game and direct her teammates has been instrumental in SUNO’s defensive strategies. Her passing accuracy has been equally outstanding, with only 27 errors in 485 receptions—the fourth-best performance in the conference.
Joining Harris in receiving All-HBCUAC honors, Alaina Obianozie has proven herself as SUNO’s "silent weapon." Obianozie’s powerful jumping ability and precision in attacks have made her a key player in setting up rallies. Leading the team in hitting percentage, she has been especially effective against conference opponents, ranking 13th in total blocks with 23 and holding a .285 hitting percentage, which places her 11th in the HBCUAC.
“Armoni and Alaina have both made tremendous contributions to our team this season,” said SUNO Head Coach Zipporah Washington. “Armoni’s leadership and relentless energy on defense have been invaluable, while Alaina’s athleticism and accuracy add a unique edge to our offensive strategy. Both players are incredibly deserving of these honors, and we are proud to see their hard work recognized by the conference.”
Fans can watch Harris and Obianozie in action for the 2024 HBCUAC Volleyball Championship, hosted by Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission at Bossier Parish Community College November 11-13.
