iLINK CATALOG/VIRTUAL LIBRARY INTERFACE The new online catalog is called the iLink. The iLink is much more than an online catalog; it is really the framework for a virtual library interface. The iLink offers access to the SUNO public library catalog, the catalogs of other LOUIS libraries, as well as to Internet-based resources.
SEARCH FEATURE The Search Feature allows library catalog searching by author, title, words or phrases, subjects, or periodical title. Users can search for library materials, ecat records, and for web resources. Advanced search can also be limited by date of publication or to particular types of resources such as government documents using item type or location choices on the bottom half of the search form.
Results Brief records are displayed first; complete records are viewable as an option. The Brief record contains Call Number, Brief Citation, and Location in the building, as well as current availability status (checked in or out, on hold). The detailed record view has two tabs, one with holdings info and location displaying by default. The catalog record displays when its tab is selected; it includes any content notes.
ECAT Records ECAT records tell the searcher in which electronic database indexing, abstracting and, in some cases, article full text is available for a given periodical title.
X-Refs X-Refs are cross-references for the subject terms used in a search. The X-Refs button displays on the search menu line toward the right when cross-references are available.
KNOWLEDGE PORTAL The Knowledge Portal feature of iLink allows library patrons to access online subscription databases, other LOUIS libraries, web sites recommended by our librarians for use by our majors, and other internet resources.
