It is my honor to serve as Chancellor of Southern University at New Orleans.  On behalf of our students, faculty, staff and alumni, thank you for visiting our website to learn more about our wonderful institution and program offerings.

The terminology used on this website which says “SUNO Rising!” represents more than a catch-phrase.  SUNO continues to rise by offering several exciting online and on-campus courses that will ultimately allow students to pursue careers in a variety of capacities, including fields such as social work, criminal justice, education, business, technology and healthcare. 

SUNO is rising in terms of infrastructure as work continues on our main campus, where a phased return is scheduled to occur between the Fall Semester 2007 and the Fall Semester 2009.  Our restructured campus will include two brand new buildings: a technology center that will house our E-learning, Audio/Visual and Internet Technology departments, and construction of a state-of-the-art student housing facility—the first such facility in SUNO’s history.

Our students continue to help SUNO rise by making us the fastest-growing four-year institution of higher learning in the Greater New Orleans Area.  As a result of their dedication and interest, our student population is currently 2,634, a 14% increase from the Fall Semester 2006.  For freshmen, we created a Leadership and Mentoring Program for Students (LAMPS) that is designed to ensure that their higher education careers begin with a great start.
