Adegboye Dr.David S. Adegboye is a professor of Microbiology.  He was Chair of Biology from August 1999 to February 2006, and currently serves as Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.  He graduated with the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria, and obtained his Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.  He has had post doctoral training in several places including the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, as a Fulbright Fellow, University of London, U.K., Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, Tulane University in New Orleans, and the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center New Orleans, where he is still involved in collaborative research.
Adekunle Dr.Solomon Adekunle is an Associate Professor of Biology.  He holds a Ph.D. degree in Cell and Molecular Biology from Boston University, Boston, Massachusetts.  He did a 3 year NIH Postdoctoral fellowship training in Clinical Cytogenetics at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health where he studied the molecular epidemiology of osteoporosis.  He is a Candidate Fellow of the American College of Medical Genetics and teaches Cell Biology, Genetics and Molecular Biology to Biology Majors. His research interest is in the role of interstitial telomeres in chromosomal instability and he has presented some of his findings at local, national and international meetings.
Placeholder Mr. Richard Cosby II is an Assistant Professor of Biology.  His research interest is “A Qualitative Analysis of Undergraduate Student Views Toward Biological Evolution.”  He is a member of the Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society, American Association of University Professors (AAUP), and the National Association of Advisors for the Health Professions (NAAHP).  He is an active participant in community/international organizations such as the Unified New Orleans Plan (UNOP) and Clinton’s Global Initiatives.  He also serves as an advisor for students interested in health careers.
Ekaidi Dr. Ibrahim Ekaidi, MD is an Associate Professor of Biology in the Department of Natural Sciences at SUNO.  He graduated from Craiova University School of Medicine, Craiova, Romania with a Medical Degree.  He did his Residency in Internal Medicine at Aleppo University Hospital Aleppo, Syria.  At various universities in the United States, Dr. Ekaidi has taught subjects such as Anatomy, Physiology and Pathophysiology.  In Medical School he taught Gross Anatomy and Embryology.  At SUNO he is teaching General Biology and Anatomy and Physiology.
Placeholder Dr. Murty S. Kambhampati is a Professor of Biology.  His research interests focus on phytoremediation, environmental toxicology, ecological studies on coastal ponds, and environmental biotechnology.  He is an active research mentor and BKX and NIS Sponsor.
Mims-Devezin Dr. Lisa Mims-Devezin is the Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and Associate Professor of Biology.  Dr. Mims-Devezin is a member of several professional organizations and serves as Advisor for Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society.  She has received awards for teaching excellence and mentoring.  Her teaching and research interests are in the areas of Microbiology and Environmental Microbiology.
Olubadewo Dr. Joseph O. Olubadewo, Associate Professor of Biology, holds a Ph. D. degree in Pharmacology from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN. His work on human placental cholinergic system was multi disciplinary, involving developmental anatomy, physiology and pharmacology. His baccalaureate major was in Chemistry (Biochemistry minor) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria. After postdoctoral work with Dr. Murray Heimberg at both University of Missouri, Columbia, MO and UTCHS, Memphis, TN, he had a highly productive academic career at Xavier University, New Orleans, LA. As a professor of pharmacology, he taught all areas of pharmacology to pharmacy, medical and nursing students. His research and publications have focused on cardiovascular, developmental biological, metabolic and endocrine problems and signal transduction. He is currently teaching General Biology and Developmental Anatomy and plans to develop the Introductory Pharmacology and related courses to increase biology electives at SUNO. His community services include various leadership roles at Suburban Baptist Church.
Placeholder Mrs. Sylvia Scineaux-Richard is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology.  She is a medical technologist certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.  Ms. Scineaux-Richard is a member of several organizations including the NAAHP (National Association of Allied Health Professionals).  She serves as advisor for students interested in the health professions and nursing.  She also serves as Vice President of the Eastern New Orleans Neighborhood Advisory Commission (ENONAC).
Tietzel Dr. Illya Tietzel is an Assistant Professor of Biology and obtained his Ph.D. degree in Immunology at the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, Germany. As a post-doctoral researcher he studied signaling of receptors in immune cells at the University of Maryland and aging of immune functions of macrophages at the University of Louisville, Kentucky. He then initiated as a post-doctoral fellow research about host pathogen interactions, involving macrophages and the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis as well as Chlamydia trachomatis. During his training he enjoined mentoring and teaching students in lab projects and classes. His research and teaching interests are Immunology, Microbiology and Host Pathogen Interactions. His membership in research and teaching organizations reflects his interests.
