The Sankofa Tourism Network

The Sankofa Tourism Network will sponsor annually three tours that highlight the rich and diverse cultures of African people throughout the world. The network is designed to recapture our past by exploring the existence of enslaved Africans in America, by offering various Plantation/Cemetery tours. The Center will also host, twice yearly, a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) tour, as well as the Africana Art Museum tour, which will specifically target galleries and museums that showcase works from the African Diaspora.

The Sankofa Heritage Tours

The Heritage Tour explores the rich culture of African Americans today, by examining the life-styles of the past. Participants will visit plantations in and around the New Orleans area, throughout the state of Louisiana, and neighboring states as well.

The tour of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU), which premiered in the fall of 2003, targets high school seniors. This educational/cultural tour of HBCUs in the Southern region provides graduating seniors in New Orleans, the opportunity to learn about the history of African American institutions and the significant contributions made by these institutions.

The Africana Art Museum tour provides participants an opportunity to learn about, and become familiar with the rich cultural history of African and African American people. Participants will examine historical artifacts, study the aspects of tribal rituals through ancient writings and scrolls, appreciate the beauty of modern day and ancient African treasures, and relive the lifestyles of a people whose history we share.
